Concepts and Terminology

A brief description of the concepts used throughout the application is as follows:

Application: The OzzyTimeTables computer software you are currently using.

Schedule, Timetable: The Weekly Class Schedule or Exam Timetable you are preparing.

Department / Program: The parent academic unit to which classes belong. Course definitions are created for a Department / Program. Therefore, a separate department/program definition should be created for each academic unit with a distinct curriculum.

Class: Student cohorts studying under a department/program. Every class is associated with a department/program. The elements distinguishing classes are Year/Grade level and Evening (Secondary) Education status. However, to represent distinct sections, classes with the same Year and Evening Education status can also be defined (e.g., Justice 1-A, Justice 1-B).

Course: Courses are defined for departments/programs and listed across all classes belonging to that department/program.

Classroom: The physical venues where classes or exams take place.

Instructor: The individuals who teach courses. Refers to teachers, instructors, lecturers, professors, and academic teaching staff.

Proctor: Refers to individuals assigned to supervise and monitor exams.
